Tell Andy Ogles: There is no room for hate in Congress

On March 9th, Representative Andy Ogles of Tennessee posted on social media, "Muslims don't belong in American society."
Ogles is not alone -- this rhetoric is spreading through the GOP.
And they are twisting our faith to do it.
In a press release later that day about his immigration ban targeting Muslim countries, Ogles invoked Jesus to justify it. He wrote:
"America's moral exemplar is a meek carpenter who rose from the dead, not a warmonger with 12 wives and countless slaves."
But this is not what the meek carpenter taught us.
The Jesus we know welcomed the stranger. Crossed every boundary of tribe and nation. Taught that loving your neighbor has no exceptions. Led through service and sacrifice, and above all -- loves ALL unconditionally.
As followers of the way of Jesus, we are called to love our neighbors.
Ogles must apologize -- or resign. Sign the petition and tell him directly: there is no room for hate in Congress, nor the Gospel.
Petition Text:
Dear Rep. Andy Ogles,
On March 9th, you posted that "Muslims don't belong in American society." As Christians committed to loving our neighbors as Jesus taught, we are calling on you to apologize -- or resign.
In a press release about your immigration ban, you invoked Jesus to justify your contempt and slander for Islam's Prophet Muhammad. But the Jesus we follow welcomed the stranger. Crossed every boundary of tribe and nation. Taught that loving your neighbor has no exceptions.
As followers of the way of Jesus, we know that our faith calls us to something different than hatred and fear. There is no room for this kind of anti-Muslim bigotry in Congress -- or the Gospel.
We call on you to apologize publicly and immediately for the harm your words have done to your Muslim neighbors. If you cannot, you should resign.
Thank you.
