It's time to abolish ICE

It’s time for all of us to strengthen our demands for accountability. It’s time for people of faith to join together and be the moral voice in this moment. It’s time to abolish ICE.
Petition Text:
To: Members of the U.S. Senate
Dear Senator,
Federal immigration agents have shot and killed another person in Minneapolis, the third such incident in just weeks amid aggressive federal enforcement. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have beaten and threatened us, killed us in broad daylight, held our children as bait, separated our families, arrested our faith leaders, terrorized our communities, and still we wait for our leaders in Congress to take action.
Since its creation in 2003, ICE has targeted, racially profiled, separated, and disappeared hundreds of thousands of people with little to no accountability for their practices. As a Christian called to love my neighbor and welcome the stranger, I am deeply alarmed by systems set up to harm and oppress. ICE’s presence in our communities does not make us safer; it tears at the very fabric of justice and mercy we are called to uphold.
Congress shares in accountability for the terror this agency has unleashed. I urge you to stop enabling violence with taxpayer dollars. Abolishing ICE is not just policy; it is a moral imperative.
We insist that Congress immediately:
1) Take swift, concrete steps to abolish ICE.
2) Strip funding for ICE immediately -- do not pass funding for ICE in budget negotiations.
3) Reject business-as-usual responses and instead enact meaningful oversight and protections for all people, regardless of immigration status.
Your leadership is needed at this moment. Please speak out strongly, with a moral voice, in opposition to ICE terror in our communities and support steps to cut funding and support for the agency.
Thank you.
